about us
We are Australia's premier corporate laughter leaders, providing services throughout Australia, as well as overseas. We have been running corporate laughter clubs since 2004 and have left hundreds - if not thousands - of employees with a smile on their face.
We have qualified leaders in most states of Australia and run sessions in many different settings, including workplaces, conferences, festivals and social gatherings.
We keep in touch with the laughter movement's founder Dr Madan Kataria and regularly meet with him to update our skills and bring you the latest techniques.
We invest an enormous amount of time in ongoing professional development - all our leaders are accomplished public speakers in their own right and proficient at leading groups. Public events are important - dont' leave it to amateurs or untried presenters. If you have any doubts - contact us. For no obligation we'll talk you through what to look for and the wonderful benefits you can expect.
who we are
Principal Cris Popp
Cris started laughing (no really) for very personal reasons - but once he experienced the benefits he wanted to share them with others. He trained with the founder of the world laughter movement, Madan Kataria, and founded the South Yarra laughter club.
He's held laughter sessions in all sorts of venues including rainy parks and crowded offices, for a variety of clients including government, corporate and non-profit organisations - and he's always left a smile on the face of participants. He incorporates laughter into the corporate stress management and wellbeing programs he provides.
He also has a 'serious' job consulting in innovation and change management and facilitating good decision-making for large and small organisations. He provides corporate training in Mind Mapping, time management, change, innovative thinking and judgment and decision-making.
We also have qualified leaders in each state of Australia, as well as various locations overseas.
what is laughter therapy?
The term "laughter therapy" is used interchangeably in Australia. Sometimes it refers to the use of laughter in a therapeutic setting (i.e. with a counsellor or therapist) and sometimes it's used to refer to the therapeutic benefits of laughter in a workplace or social setting. In the US there is actually the "Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH)". www.aath.org - a group of therapists dedicated to using laughter to heal people.
what is laughter yoga?
Laughter Yoga combines "Unconditional Laughter" with Yogic Breathing (Pranayama). Anyone can "laugh for no reason", without relying on humor, jokes or comedy. Laughter is simulated as a body exercise in a group. With eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter.
The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on the scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter. You get the same physiological and psychological benefits.
background to laughter yoga
Dr Madan Kataria started laughter yoga in Mumbai, India after researching the benefits of laughter for an article he was writing. A fully qualified medical doctor, Madan held the word's first laughter yoga session in a local park (there is actually a much funnier story about how it all began but we'll keep that for when we meet you in person). The laughter yoga movement has since spread to more than 6,000 locations around the world and was included in the 2004 Melbourne International Festival.
At Laughter Works we've combined our work with Madan with our experience in leadership and professional development (including our work with Melbourne Business School) to develop laughter yoga specifically for workplace settings.
Recent research has shown laughter yoga to be highly effective at raising the performance of staff. The health benefits of laughter yoga are undisputed and universal. A customised laughter session is the best way to enjoy “the medicine of laughter”.
